TAYLOR SWIFT STYLE: FASHION THROUGH THE ERAS

Available for pre-order now. Out October 8, 2024.

The story of Taylor’s style evolution from almost two decades of looks.

The designers. The details. And the intention behind it all.
Featuring 200+ photos spanning 10 albums (+ Eras Tour).
Accompanied by Critically Kind commentary (natch).

When it came to choosing a single image as homage to Taylor’s style, I selfishly had greener ideas in mind. Never fear - the spine is 💚.

One look made the most sense. A look iconic and quintessentially “Taylor”: Unabashedly girly, that had a cat eye sharp enough to kill a man, and a red lip classic thing that we all like. But also one that meant something more. A look that Taylor took and elevated to take on new meaning - intertwining the two methods of communication she has used in equal measure her entire career: Her music and her fashion.

A watershed moment capturing a rising country star poised on the precipice of her next great venture months before unleashing an album that would lift her out of the modern day trappings of ‘pop star’ and into someone of true, undeniable, legendary status. While looking every bit the timeless icon she would become. It was also a moment that split apart the atomic identity of Taylor Swift the artist before her reputation was leveled and rebuilt into something even grander that we see flourishing today.

I hope this caption gives a glimpse into the heart, the soul, and the care that went into this book. I’m sure you know, but I’ll earnestly say it now: Pre-orders mean everything. They make a difference. I’ve put a link in bio here options to pre-order from your preferred seller.

Taylor once dreamed of writing an album dedicated to a real love that shines golden like starlight. As a love letter to her catalogue and career that’s changed and formed my life in every way - the front and page edges of this first run of TSS: FASHION THROUGH THE ERAS ⭕ will be gilded in special, first edition gold foil.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press for believing in the style behind the story and that this story in particular was worth telling.

Meet & greet | Sydney, Australia | February 23, 2024

Adidas ‘Adicolor 70s T-Shirt’ - $50.00

Taylor notably hasn’t been doing official fan meet and greets on the Eras Tour (a worthy sacrifice in favour of a longer setlist, imo). But in Sydney it appears she made time to meet some fans post-show and she was wearing a very cute casual sporty tee by Adidas.

Miu Miu ‘Pleated Mini Skirt’ - $1,405.25

This marks Taylor’s third Miu Miu skirt in recent months. Her previous two were in a cute check and plaid prints.

Tilly Sveaas ‘Gold T-Bar Curb Link Necklace’ - $385.00 (starting)

Statement gold jewelry like the iconic T-bar (Taylor bar, perhaps) by U.K. brand Tilly Sveaas (I wonder if Taylor was amused by sharing the same initials as the brand?) feel very in line with Taylor’s latest love of gold jewelry stacking.

House of CB ‘Chicca Top’ - $119.00

I had voiced just today in my Tortured Poets prediction post over on the TSS Patreon what our first glimpse of “official” TTPD candid style would look like now that we all have a project to contextualize her fashion through. The last year has seen Taylor evoke a mature continuation of the schoolgirl styles (heeled loafers, plaid mini skirts, chunky knits) she’s loved since her late teens that one can now perhaps read in retrospect as future nods to ‘dark academia’ fashion that we may continue to see unfold under the TTPD masthead.

This ‘fit (our first following her album announcement at the Grammys) seems to all but confirm that by underlining the key items that she’s been repeating as this era’s uniform. Pieces like her House of CB bustier-style corset top (the hook and eye front closure, ruffled neckline, and curvy seam details feel soft and femme and a little sensual) and belted mini skirt (her third by Miu Miu).

I so look forward to continuing to watch TTPD fashion unfold. What are your thoughts? Both on past outfits and this one perhaps leading to the road of The Tortured Poets Department.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY

Only bought this dress … so I could take off my ceremony dress.

My first Valentine’s Day as a wife seemed like a great time to hold on to certain memories and give my reception dress a moment on the feed.

This dress was like a champagne bottle uncorked: bubbly and fizzy. Perfect for cheersing to the toast of my town. A husband who is thoughtul and kind, patient and generous, sensitive and darkly funny … and also born in the wee hours before New Year’s Day.

Amiri custom jacket

This time, the jacket around her shoulders is his. Heading out on the town to celebrate the Chiefs Super Bowl win, Taylor borrowed Travis’ custom bouclé sequin jacket by Amiri which is riffed from the brand’s SS24 collection. Founder and creative director Mike Amiri told WWD, “The look is very much our take on modern tailoring, with a cropped jacket and baggy trouser, here made in a black bouclé fabric woven with paillettes to celebrate the showman that he is.”

When it comes to Taylor, she’s no stranger to Amiri pieces having worn a number of them during the reputation and Lover eras. I also wonder if a bit of coordination happened here between the both of them rocking black and silver embellished looks.

Christian Louboutin ‘Eleonor Suede Ankle Boots’ - $1,195.00

Having seemingly learned from the AFC Championship game when Taylor stepped onto the field for the first time to celebrate the win, she’s swapped her stiletto heels for a thicker, slanted block heel that appears to be these ‘Eleonor’ style ones.

And a custom ’87’ on the side. Naturally.

Shahla Karimi Jewelry ‘Bezel Set Demi Ring’ - $850.00
SHAY ‘Ruby Eternity Band’ - $5,660.00
Retrouvai ‘Magna Ring’ - $3,210.00

This isn’t the first time Taylor has worn Retrouvai. Another L.A.-based jewelry brand. The last time being the “I Bet You Think About Me” music video - directed of course by Blake Lively who just so happens to be there with Taylor to take in tonights game. ‘Magna’ of course meaning ‘great’ in Latin - which feels like a bejeweled way to manifest a Chiefs win.

The Last Line ‘Heart Twist Earring’ - $495.00/each

Once again, Taylor’s jewelry choices are doing a lot of talking. This is the first time as far as I’m aware that Taylor is wearing L.A.-based ‘The Last Line’ - but how appropriate is it to wear a (Chiefs) red heart earring that obviously has a romantic undertone from a brand that has a name one could easily parallel to this being the final game of the football season.

Stephanie Gottlieb ‘Diamond Tennis Choker’ - $7,500.00

Taylor has worn quite a few timeless diamond tennis pieces this year, her Eras Tour movie premiere set immediately comes to my mind.

Stephanie Gottlieb ‘Large Varsity Pendant’ - $4,250.00

To coordinate with the “’60” on her Wear by EA jacket (a reference to the founding year of the Chiefs - you’ll spot it intermittently across Chiefs merch and it’s differentiated from the player number here by the ‘ ahead of ’6’), Taylor went personal with an ’87’ necklace.

taylorswiftstyle:

Are you ready for it? A new Taylor Swift book inspired by her best outfits throughout the decades is headed for bookstores. The book titled Taylor Swift Style: Fashion Through the Eras doesn’t come out until Oct. 8, but the buzz around it has already landed the tome as a No. 1 bestseller on Amazon for fashion design.

Longtime fashion blogger Taylor Swift Style (known offline as Sarah Chapelle) wrote the book and has garnered 240,000 followers on Instagram, along with being credited in publications such as Billboard, People, Harper’s Bazaar and more for her research. You can expect more than 200 photos of some of the “Delicate” singer’s most iconic looks, as well as insight into the hidden meaning behind each outfit. It’s no secret that Swift loves a good Easter egg, and Chapelle looks to delve into the effortless fusion of fashion and music through every red carpet gown and streetwear style that’s spotlighted.

“Taylor Swift Style: Fashion Through the Eras is a natural extension of my blog and Instagram account that combines detailed identification reporting with analyzing the intention behind each look — definitively capturing her style evolution across almost two decades,” Chapelle tells Billboard.

Each first-edition comes with a rainbow spine that’s symbolic of each era, as well as gold foiled pages, which Chapelle hopes will help “people see this book as something truly special and worthy of being displayed.”

What also sets her book apart from any other Swift books goes beyond the research. Chapelle has been listening to Swift’s music since 2006 and even saw her open for Rascal Flatts and Brad Paisley. Using the built-up knowledge and love of the “August” singer, she hopes that the amount of care and thought she put in will come to all who pick up a copy.

“I’ve been documenting Taylor’s fashion since 2011, providing not only the exact pieces she’s wearing, but also providing my personal insight and context on her clothes as a communication tool,” she says. “All my most significant firsts as a young female were easier to navigate and process because they were mirrored and comforted by the soundtrack that she wrote. I hope what comes across in this book — and in everything I do — is the level of care, thought and deep-rooted feelings that are there. I’ve been inspired by Taylor’s emotional authenticity for over half my life, and I hope that’s captured in these pages.”

While I have your attention as I’m doing Super Bowl coverage, please don’t mind my shameless self-promotion of my upcoming book Taylor Swift Style which is out October 8 and available for pre-order now. Pre-orders are so vital to authors (especially first time ones!) so if a beautifully designed one-of-a-kind keepsake that would look beautiful any Swiftie’s coffee table is something you’d consider - I would so appreciate it.

Pro Tip: Only the special first edition will feature a gilded cover and page edges for that extra special sparkle that fans love. We’re letting the first edition bejeweled.
